Ahrensburg, 10. December 2020 – Anyone who wants to get the most out of their data speed can be happy about the falling prices for the blazing-fast NVMe SSDs, but when choosing the hardware they have to consider that modern PCIe drives are already slowed down by USB 3.1 (Gen 2) with the maximum possible transfer rates of up to 10 Gbit/s. A very good alternative to the very high-priced Thunderbolt ™ 3 solutions is the new USB 3.2 (Gen 2x2) protocol used in the IB-1922MF-C32, which allows extremely high data transfer rates of up to 20 Gbps.
The IB-1922MF-C32 is connected to the computer via USB Type-C® and regardless of the operating system used (Windows®, macOS®), the full bandwidth is immediately available for use as a mobile storage device for notebook or PC or as an ultra-fast expansion for a gaming console. In external real-world tests, even data transfer rates of over 2 GB/s were measured with the pre-installed 960 GB Phision SSD (Crystal Disk Benchmark).
Since the current high-performance NVMe SSDs generate a lot of heat (80° - 90° are no rarity), especially in continuous operation under full load, the SSDs are throttled in their performance from a temperature defined by the specific manufacturer in order to prevent damage to them. That's why the ICY BOX engineers focused their attention on particularly efficient cooling characteristics for this data turbo. The enclosure, which is made almost entirely of aluminum, takes this into account on the one hand with its innovative cooling fin design for optimum passive heat dissipation through self-convection and is additionally supported by an active 30 mm fan. The fan switches on automatically above an internal temperature of 40° and thus prevents – pleasantly quietly – a reduction in speed even when transferring large amounts of data, while ensuring a longer lifespan of the flash storage at the same time.
For additional data security against viruses or accidental deletion, the practical electronic write protection can be easily activated or deactivated as needed via a switch on the front.
The IB-1922MF-C32, which is manufactured to the usual high quality and precision, impresses with its unusual yet appealing design. The SSD mounting is very easy - with only five screws the enclosure can be opened and any M.2 NVMe in the common sizes (22x 30/42/60/80 mm) can be installed and fixed. The rubber feet on the bottom protect the desk from scratches and provide stability.
The IB-1922MF-C32 is of course downwards compatible with USB 3.1/3.0/2.0, but in order to use the full bandwidth it must be connected via UBS 3.2 (Gen 2x2) - if not available, most computers can easily be upgraded with an appropriate PCI expansion card (e.g. ICY BOX IB-PCI1901-C32).
Key features of the ICY BOX IB-1922MF-C32:
